INCORRECT BELIEFS

INCORRECT BELIEFS

#1

It is generally believed that when a man embraces Islam he should be given some laxative to purify him. This is quite baseless.

#2

It is generally believed that by abusing any one, the sinner remains an unbeliever for forty days and if he dies during this period he dies an unbeliever. This is untrue but the sin of abusing still lies on him.

#3

Some people believe that Shaytaan is the spiritual guide (Sheikh) of the one who has no sheikh. This is false.

#4

Some men wrongly believe that the Aqsa Masjid is on the fourth sky and the Jami' Masjidat Delhi is it's prototype. Both these beliefs are false. The Masjid Aqsa is situated in Jerusalem and Jami' Masjid Delhi is in Delhi (India), which is not a prototype of the former.

#5

Some people believe that every Thursday evening the spirits of the dead visit their homes and stand in a corner to see who offers them reward. If they get some reward they are happy, otherwise they return in disappointment. This is baseless and false.

#6

Some women do not go nor sit with those women whose children had passed away. They also prevent their children from going to them saying that child-death will touch them. This is a very bad attitude. It is a sin to think and to do so. [This applies to the current fear people have with covid too.]

#7

Some people think that the 3rd, 8th, 13th, 18th, 21st, 38th, 43rd and the 48th year of their lives is a difficult year. This is a false and bad belief.

#8

Most people believe that when dogs weap some epidemic or disease is going to break out. This is baseless and wrong.

#9

Some people think that if a dog touches something like your clothes, pots, etc., the thing that was touched becomes impure. It is not so. However, it becomes impure if the dog's saliva affects these things.

#10

Some people believe that if your satr (portion of the body which is necessary to be covered) is exposed, then the wudhu breaks. This is an incorrect belief.

#11

Some say that if one made wudhu for janaazah salaah, you may not use the same wudhu for the five daily salaah. This is quite false.

#12

Some women think that ablution becomes void by going out of the house. This is quite false, but it is undesirable for women to go out of the house without necessity.

#13

It is a common belief that unless a woman in her menses or post delivery has taken a bath, it is not correct to eat anything prepared or touched by her. This is quite false. It should be noted that the hands do not become impure on account of menstruation and post-delivery bleeding.

#14

Some women think that it is not lawful for a woman to read salaah for forty days after birth, even when they become clean before this period. This belief is against the laws of the Shari'ah. The maximum period of post-delivery bleeding is forty days and there is no limit of the minimum period. She should take a bath and start salaah as soon as she becomes clean. Similarly, if bleeding does not stop even after forty days then after the expiry of this period she should consider herself to be clean and start salaah.

#15

Some people think that it is unlawful to walk across a person who is calling the Azan or busy with Du'a (supplication). This belief has no basis.

#16

Some people believe that Nabi صلي الله عليه وسلم is Omni present.

Allah alone is Omni present. This is the correct belief.

#17

Most people are of the belief that after reading salaah on the musallah, it should be folded in half, otherwise Shaytaan will read salaah on it.

This is ludicrous.

REALLY? Shaytaan refused to make sajdah when Allah instructed him to do so. Do you think he is going to offer long long salaah on YOUR musallah?

#18

It is a general practice among the musalli's that a sick musalli praying in a sitting posture sits at the extreme left or right of the row, as if it is undesirable to sit somewhere in the middle of the row. This is a baseless practice.

#19

Some people say that after doing the Sajdah Tilawat (prostration during recitation of the Quran) one should also make salaam in both directions. This is quite false. Sajdah Tilawat has no salaam after it.

#20

It is a belief among people that because of sleeping before the lsha salaah the lsha salaah is lost and after getting up from sleep one should read qadha of Esha. This is quite wrong. It should be noted that it is undesirable to sleep before the lsha salaah without a justification. Even if you have not slept, the time after midnight is a makrooh (detestable) time to read the Esha salaah.

#21

If one performs Fardh salaah on a train or plane in the direction of the qiblah and the vehicle changes direction away from the qiblah, the salaah will break. A common belief is that the salaah will still be correct.

Even if you managed to read the salaah facing qiblah in such a situation, one should repeat it once in a stationary position on the ground.

#22

Many people combine two salaah whilst on (Safar) a journey. They believe you can combine Zuhr with Asr, and Maghrieb with Esha. This is an incorrect belief. By doing so, your Asr and Esha salaah will not be performed. Combining two salaah in one salaah time is not permissible. (Hanafi Fiqh)

#23

Some people give up salaah because they are suffering from diseases in which it is difficult to maintain purity of one's body and clothes. They think that in such a situation the salaah cannot be made. It is wrong to think like that. It is imperative to offer salaah even in such situations after consulting with the Ulama. Salaah becomes valid even in a situation when it isvery difficult and painful to wash the body or it is feared that the illness will be aggravated and there are not enough clothes to change.

#24

Some people join their toes and ankles with the person's next to them when straightening the sufoof for Jamaat Salaah. This is incorrect and quite bothersome for the brother next to you. The shoulders should be joined and the heels should be inline with each other. Your feet should be one fist apart.

#25

Some people recite durood aloud when hearing the name of Muhammad صلي الله عليه وسلم while the Khateeb delivers the Jumuah khutbah. This is incorrect.

The durood should be recited in the heart and not with the tongue.

#26

Many people believe that it is fine to read salaah with short sleeve kurtas, because it is a kurta. This is false.

Reading salaah with the elbows exposed is makrooh. Exposure of the elbows is not allowed, thus making your salaah defective.

#27

It is a common belief among the people that it is not correct to recite DUROOD without ablution. This is totally wrong. It is correct to recite even the Quraan Shareef without ablution. The Quran should, however, not be touched with the hands without ablution.

#28

Even the practitioners of religion do not pay any attention to the fact that they write Qur'anic verses without ablution or hand over the Quran to a man who is not with ablution. It should be noted well that writing and touching the Quran with the hands without ablution are unlawful acts.

❌Do not allow the domestic workers to touch ornaments or frames which have Quraan Shareef verses on them. Clean these ourselves.

#29

Some spiritual guides say that loud zikr is unconditionally lawful. This is quite wrong. One very important condition of it's lawfulness is that neither the heart of a person who is making thikr nor a sleeping person should be disturbed. Where there is a possibility of such disturbance Zikr should be done in a low voice, although it may have been advised to perform Zikr in a loud voice.

This applies to a person making tilaawat aloud, in the home or in the masjid, whilst others around him are asleep or making other forms of ibaadat.

#30

It is a common practice and belief that meals must be served at the mayyit house. Rather the people making Taziyat must bring food for the grieving family.

Another evil belief is to serve kheer at the mayyit house. This is also a baseless and wrong belief and practice which must be shunned.

#31

It is a common belief that the mayyit's rooh comes home to see who is grieving for it. People also believe that you should cover all mirrors in the house after the deceased leaves the house, so that he does not get confused when he comes back to visit.

These beliefs are baseless and bid'ah. The mayyit's rooh either goes to Illiyyeen (place for good souls) or Sijjeen (place for evil souls).

#32

The practice of feeding and gathering for Faatiha, 7 days, 40 days and 4 months after the passing of someone is a bid'ah practice.

Another practice is to visit the family of the deceased on the occasion of the first Eid which follows their demise. This bid'ah is called first Eid. This practice has no basis in Islam.

#33

It has become a common belief that when someone is on their death bed, they MUST be given Zam Zam water to drink. This is an incorrect belief.

The last action Nabi صلي الله عليه وسلم did, was to use a miswaak.

#34

Some people say that on the day of Eidul Adhaa, one must fast until sacrificing the animal. This is baseless. However, it is desirable not to eat anything before the sacrifice, but it is not obligatory to avoid eating, nor does it bear the recompense of fasting, nor has one to make the intent (Niy-yat) of fasting.

#35

Some think that it is not lawful to make qurbani of a castrated animal. This is false. On the other hand the sacrifice of such an animal is better. Our Prophet صلي الله عليه وسلم has himself sacrificed a castrated fat-tailed ram.

#36

It is a very common belief that the meat of an animal sacrificed for Aqiqah should not be eaten by the parents, maternal and paternal grandfathers and grandmothers. This is baseless. This meat of sacrifice is governed by the rules of Qurbani meat.

#37

Some people think that if Zakat money is paid to anyone without telling him that it is Zakat money, then the obligation of Zakat is not discharged. This is quite wrong, as zakaat is discharged even without telling the recipient that it is Zakat money.

#38

Some people think that Zakat is not due on such silver and gold jewellery that are being worn daily. It should be noted that, jewellery whether worn or kept in safe custody are equally liable to Zakat.

#39

Some people believe that if a man divorces his wife in anger or simply to threaten her, such a divorce is not effective. Such a belief is incorrect. A talaaq issued in anger is effective. (Will anyone issue a talaaq because they happy with their wife?).

#40

It is observed that some students commence a new kitab (book) on a Wednesday only, and ascribe this practice to a Hadeeth, but there is no narrative to this effect.

#41

Some men think that if the left eye of a man and the right eye of a woman twitches then it is an indication of some imminent mishap or sorrow; or of happiness and good fortune if the twitching of the eyes is vice versa. This is totally wrong belief.

'My friends care for me. You [my parents] do not! I'm better off with them. Only they understand me, so stop telling me what to do in MY life.'

Very common and disrespectful statements from children these days..

Your helper (friend) is none but Allah and His Messenger and those who have believed - those who establish salaah and give zakah, and they bow [in worship].

If you have friends like those mentioned in the Ayah, then you have true friends. These friends direct you to what is good for you.
