A letter:
To the group of ladies who are working with the constitutional court to amend the Shariah by means of the Muslim Marriages Bill...
I would like you to know that you do not represent me. You do not speak on my behalf. I distance myself completely from what you are doing.
I am a Muslimah living in South Africa.
Im not a ‘scholar’, nor am I a ‘professional’. I like to introduce myself as a ‘work in progress’, trying to follow the teachings of the Quran & Sunnah in my daily life.
Firstly I would like to clarify something... What is Islam? Islam means submission to the laws and commands of Allah, our Creator, and following the Sunnah of our Beloved Prophet salallahu alayhi wasallam. If you are having a problem submitting to Allahs commands and the sunnah, then maybe its time for some deep soul-searching.
Secondly, The Laws of Allah are perfect, without fault and He is The Creator of the heavens & earth. He is The Most Wise, The Most Just, The Most Knowledgeable, The Most Merciful & The All-Encompassing. His Wisdom is Absolutely perfect, flawless. He is the Creator of every living & non-living thing & He maintains the entire universe in perfect balance. To assume that you, a creation of Allah the Almighty, knows better about women’s rights and how to protect women is a grave error. Can the Creator and the created ever compare?! It is stated that the knowledge of the entire creation is like a drop of water and Allah’s knowledge is like the vast oceans. Take some time to ponder & reflect upon that.
Thirdly, you feel the shariah needs to be amended so that the younger generation can practice easily. Id like to suggest a different solution. The younger generation need to be taught to follow the teachings of Islam. Lets place the blame squarely upon our shoulders, and not blame the shariah for the condition of our youth. Have we, as Muslims not failed in giving our children the correct Islamic upbringing? Have we placed importance on teaching them Islamic manners, & the sunnah? Have we sent them to the maktab & darul ulooms to learn Islamic knowledge or have we given more importance to secular education & extracurricular activities? Lets be brutally honest now.
Fourthly i’d like to point out, that feminism is an ideology of western secular nations. It has nothing to do with Islam. The concept of gender equality is man-made & has fooled many women into believing that it is the best thing for them. I urge you to consider: Would The One Who Created women not know how to fulfill their rights? Why does a woman need to be equal to a man? If Allah created men and women physically, mentally and emotionally different for very specialised and specific roles in society, why do you feel
that any man-made, secular ideology is superior?
“What is wrong with you? How do you make judgement?” [Quran 37:155]
Fifthly, Id like to remind you again, you do not represent me. When my Creator has placed paradise under my feet, and when He has made me a shield for my parents from the Hell-fire, & when He has honored me to bring forth the next generation of scholars, doctors, teachers, da’ees to Islam, Mujahideen, to be a means for the human race to thrive & multiply, why would I look for value anywhere else? My value is in my relationship with my Creation.
Islam gave women their rights long before the western nations did, that is a fact.
When you go to the constitutional court, attempting to amend the shariah to your western feminist ideology, I’d like to remind you, that there is a Day, not too far in your future, when you will stand in front of your Creator, the same Creator Whose laws you are attempting to change. You will have to explain to Him, why you felt you knew better than Him.?I can tell you now, without a doubt, you will not have a single answer and you will drown in regret.
My advice to you group of Muslim ladies is to please stop what you are doing and return to Allah with Istighfaar and obedience to His commands. You will reap the consequences of the seeds you are planting today. If you support amending the Shariah, you will taste the bitterness of your fruits very soon.
“And which of your Lord’s favors will you deny?” [Quran 55:13]
Signed: Blessed to be a Muslimah.
